383 in a 55 Chevy

Been building this 55 chevy with a business associate. New to Fitech, seems like a easy system to tune, however learning how to get s tarted and tweek the computer is going to be time consuming. Am very familiar with computer cars, and have HP tuners. Haven't done as much tuning on computer cars as I would like. Tuning carbs and curving distributors for many years. Looking for some info on the fitech system to get things going in the correct direction. Any suggestions would be welcomed, not real big on BS just want facts and not opposed to suggestions.

Haha, the lack of BS is why I started this site.  Much less static than the Facebook groups.

System is quite simple to get started.  I would recommend starting with the basic settings and let the unit learn for a week or two.  You probably already know, but proper grounds/wiring and fuel system are essential.

Well, the business associate that I mentioned on this site  2 years ago has gone into the programmer and changed everything. Calls me to walk him through resetting it up. Like I'm going to remember what numbers I had from 2 years ago. Now the car idles at 1500, and I iac count is 144. Turning the throttle stop back isn't working. It seems like the iac count is going higher. Need to get back to the basics to reset the parameters. Where can I get the very basic information on resetting this car back up? He doesn't remember what he changed, he called someone at fitech supposedly over a exhaust smell and they told him to change this and that. After he did that the car wouldn't even start. This is a head scratcher and I don't have much hair. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Simply loading the default V8 calibration and then setting the basics will get you started again.

Thanks,

BTW streetperf, adjusting the IAC is the opposite to what you would think.  You actually turn the idle screw in to reduce IAC.  Of course then the TPS will read > 0 so you will need to shut the engine off, wait 30 sec, start it back up to reset the TPS to 0.  When you want to increase IAC you turn the screw out and I've found you don't have to reset the TPS, because it's already still at 0.  The key is to only turn the screw about 1/4 turn or less on every adjustment.

New wrinkle, engine was running trying to get the IAC and idle set. Shut the engine off, went to start up, and no start. Couldn't hear the fuel pump. Check for voltage at the pump no voltage. Traced the wire all the way to the harness. Called Fitech, they said send it to them. Waiting on it's return.

Well the 55 is back. This time came on a roll back. Won't start, when it does it sounds like it's mixing up cylinders. Suspect module in distributor going Joe Biden. Changed the module and went to the fitech website for basic set up information. Printed 12 pages. Called fitech for more info on possible numbers for settings. He sent me 5 downloads. Also went to U tube, still looking for info, got a lot on the downloads and u tube. Now the car runs and starts like it should. I have ate AFR set to 14.55 to 1 thus far, going by exhaust smell presently. I like the idea that Austin said about watching the vacuum setting and changing the AFR until it stops or goes the other way. Good tip. Working on Accel shot as had a hesitation only at 1st to 2nd gear(4 speed car), or vacuum advance coming in. Any tips you folks to send my way would be a great help. Always looking to learn and the more I learn from this system the more I like it. Thanks.
