No fuel pressure when engine hot
Quote from just_big on July 24, 2018, 1:55 amhi guys!
i did not know where to post so i did it here.
I already did 300 miles with my 30002 600hp efi and a 390 ford fe. The engine has been completly rebuild and is like new.
a few days ago, on a hot day, i made like 15 miles and then the engine turned off, and i could read no fuel pressure on my gauge. After 5-10 minutes i could restart the engine and it happened again and again in a shorter intervall until home. One day later i made a testdrive for about 10 miles without issues...
Is there maybe a security temperature switch in the efi?
can someone help me?

Ran the 1st hour OK then it died. Display showed very lean just before it died. I let the car sit for about 20 minutes then I could run about another 30 minutes. Interval got shorter until I could only go 8-10 miles. I was convinced I had a bad fuel pump so I bought/installed a new one. Next hot day - same thing.
Seems unlikely but the issue, for me, was the inline fuel filter. My Summit filter has a stainless mesh screen. Guess the mesh expanding when the fuel got warm and leaned the engine out. I cleaned the screen and all has been good since.
Here's my email if you need to ask any follow-up questions: werner@oasispools.com

Quote from just_big on July 24, 2018, 1:16 pmGreat hint! Sounds logic for me, metal expands when hot... i do have an thin filter so this could happen. The temperatures were the same at this day.
the only difference on my problem is that i could‘nt hear the fuel pump running when the pressure was off, at when it started again i could hear the pump when i had pressure.
if ok for you, i do answer here in the posts, so if anyone has the same problem he can see what we talked and what we tried 😉

Quote from bdhulderman on July 24, 2018, 3:34 pmJust_Big, I take it you are using the EFI to control your fuel pump voltage, and I assume you have return line going back to the tank. I discovered my fuel pump didn't accept Pulse Width Modulation (PWM), and my internal pressure regulator on my fitech meanstreet 800 quit working, so I had to put constant voltage to the pump, and use a regulator with return to control the pressure to the fitech. This keeps the pump cool, because fuel is always running through it. Just a thought.

Quote from ray on July 24, 2018, 7:56 pmMaybe? If you have the old stile smaller 6 wire plug it may have burned some wires going to the pump inside of it.
Only takes a moment to ck. I was only 15 miles from home when this happened.
I don't have a cell phone...(But I do carry a carburetor)

Quote from just_big on July 25, 2018, 5:42 pmThanks for your ideas, finally i got an answer from fitech (after 2 inquirys):
“Hi
check your fuel filters, if there partially clogged they can cause the pump to heat up. Let us know what you find out“
I‘m gonna check this and also all your ideas. I ordered a fitech fuel pump to replace the summit pump. Keep you up to date after that. Continue with your ideas guys, everything helps!

Quote from just_big on August 9, 2018, 10:56 amHi guys,
i removed the summit fuel pump and replaced it by a fitech pump. The filter was really dark for 300miles and the fuel tank was dirty inside. I also removed the tank and cleaned it. If i do not repost, consider the problem as solved, and the solution as mentioned: oberheated pump due to clogged fuel filter.
