Saving and reloading tunes

what is the correct procedure for saving and reloading tunes. I have spent quite a long time getting the car to start and run just right and was now happy enough to save a tune. Don’t know what I did but I managed to reset the whole system and lost all my changes. I managed to reset everything by memory and am hoping it performs the same.

I took my handheld to my computer and created a new file called MyTune to save to later.  It's a little confusing how they word the saving and retrieving of tunes.  When you are ready to save you need to "read from ECU", as apposed to "write to ECU" or some wording like that.  It may be a little clearer if they said "save ECU data"  or something along those lines.  Anyway, when you "read from ECU" or whatever it says, you can find your "MyTune" file to write to, then it will be there to "write to ECU" when you need it later if you have a problem.  Good luck.

There are three empty files on the system.  Select read from ECU.   It will ask what file to save too.  Your top ones will be your default 8, 6 and 4 cylinder tunes, below that are the empty files.  I always save to one of those, then take handheld to the PC and rename the file.  From time to time, I will write over my tune with the latest learned tune.

Thanks, I will try this tomorrow. Hopefully it starts and drives as before. Since I managed to return the system to factory settings, will I need to drive for a couple of hundred km again for it to re-learn?

Yes.  It may not take that much driving, but remember it is always learning.  Keep an eye on your AFR trims.  You should see those numbers reduce on average.

Yesterday before I cleared it. The fuel trim was hovering around -20 towards zero at idle. Should it get lower the more it learns.

Drive it a little and take a datalog.  Let us see....
