BASIC INFO FOR A NEWB LOL

Page 1 of 2Next

Hey Guys,

So me being a newbie/not a mechanic (just enjoy tinkering) so for map sensor installation mine is on top of the intake just held in with the 2 side clips no hold down screw. I do not believe I have a location at the back of the intake and the intake is already installed so any other way/option of installation or ideas mod the spot the original is in with out removing the intake? Also for what Fitech is calling the Idle air temp sensor is I did not get one in the 70051 kit, what aftermarket part can I use? and any ideas where to mount it? And of course any help would and will be appreciated. I have ordered my adapters for converting the injectors to the small Delphi style thanks to some helpful tips 🙂

You can use your existing MAP sensor.  The one Fitech offers probably fits a different intake.  As for the IAT, Intake Air Temp Sensor, I would research the location of your original sensor was for your model engine.  Sometimes they were in the air intake tube on the factory setups.

By the way, I'm going to move this to the LS section.  No need in confusing the Throttle Body guys.😁

Hey Austin,

Sorry never no where to post the questions 🙂 Thanks for the response I think the original IAT may have been part of the mass air flow originally?? Not 100% sure what the motor is out of but I think 2003 if my running of the block numbers is correct. I have not figured out what to use for the intake hose set up yet so could possibly mount one there one I know a part number of what will work for me.

The 5 wire MAF units had the IAT built into the MAF.

I put my IAT in the the front of the top of my lq4 intake in the evap purge valve on the same intake you have. I had to drill the hole out larger but it just popped right in. ( I put some rtv on it also) I took the throttle body off to vacuum any plastic out from drilling . I will take a picture and find the part number if your still interested.

for the map I used the one supplied by fitech since the harness doesn't fit the factory one so i drilled that hole out a little bit also.

Hey Kire1984,

yes some pics and part # would be appreciated. 🙂

sorry about the delay here are a couple pics

the ac delco p.n. is 213243. fitech gave that to me. there is also a p.n. that is a sensor that is meant to be threaded. I don't have that one but they could give it to you.

Thanks 🙂

I am slowly coming along, most of the engine harness is hooked up I just have the IAT and Map to go and done that portion. Still need to hook up the 2 grounds (I am presuming both can go to the back of the cylinder heads) The 2 power leads to the starter and the other power lead, and battery cables (still a little unsure)

Hey guys/gals

Unfortunately still slowly coming along on my project, have reoccurring back problems 🙁 been frustrating. Since last post I added a bunch of grounds back of transmission/block to frame, front of block to frame, frame to rad support, back of cylinder head to fire wall. Ran the positive cable from starter to battery ground from block to battery, ran fuel pump wire from fitech harness to the fuel tank, re did a bunch of interior wiring as I am adding all aftermarket gauges. So will have to hook up the tac and speedo signal to the gauges yet. Lots of small stuff done, lots to go. Modified the map sensor hole for the included Map sensor from the kit, I have still not attempted the IAT switch install yet debating if I should make something for installing ahead of the throttle body or drill the intake as Kire1984 recommends just not sure I want to attempt LoL???? Any and all info is appreciated 🙂

After reading Paul Bell's installation tips I may reconsider some stuff, I originally had the 2 power leads that were together going to the starter and the 2 grounds going to back of the cylinder heads. So the 2 power leads direct to the battery? and both grounds direct to battery as well? or a distribution block? So much to think about. I currently unhooked everything to test the electrical (lights, grounds etc.) on the rest of the car first before hooking back up the Fitech. Also may run the fuel pump lead to a separate relay????

Again any and all info is appreciated 🙂
