idle learn at -35.2
Quote from 63ChevyII327 on July 26, 2019, 7:39 amHi, everyone my first post. My idle learn is at -35.2 what can I change to fix this?
Setup: 327 .030 over, performer RPM cam, heads, air gap intake, shorty headers, MSD pro billet dist. locked out with base timing at 15. @2000 rpm =31, @4000 rpm =42. Cam selection=4.
Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m4rjxoq9yp43yzh/DashBoard1.csv?dl=0
In this log there is a fault code for the fan relay as I grounded it out to have the fan run while the engine was off and forgot to take the grounding wire off.
Cheers

What is your cam spec?

Quote from 63ChevyII327 on July 27, 2019, 12:01 amHi it is the 7102 cam. Intake duration=234' Exhaust duration=244, intake lift=488, Exhaust lift=512, Lobe separation Angle=112.
I was reading a few other posts and I was going to try setting to 3 but I'll wait on your recommendation.
Thanks Austin

Yeah, I would try cam 3.
Quote from 63ChevyII327 on July 30, 2019, 8:53 pmHI sorry for replying late. I was chasing a few issues unrelated to the FiTech system.
I did try Cam=3 but still didn't like what I was seeing so I put the Cam setting to =2 ran it up to temperature. Didn't change the timing or any other setting. I did play with the AFR target at idle a bit but going to 13.6 and then to 15.5 didn't really change the vacuum.(might not of been hot enough when I did it)
I snap the throttle now and it revs up great, doesn't hesitate or bog.
Here is the Dropbox link for the latest DataLog at idle: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ckbavqri1xlxjyd/DashBoardCam%3D2%20%282%29.csv?dl=0
I'll try and get some driving in tomorrow and see how it goes.
Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Quote from 63ChevyII327 on August 6, 2019, 9:13 pmPerfect thanks, I have sent you and Fitech e-mails to get the latest software.
I have ran the car on Cam#2 and Cam #3 settings with little changes here and there. Both start and idle well, both pull very hard through the gears.
Ordered new coolant temp sensor as mine is not matching my mechanical temp. gauge. It is about 15 degrees colder. So hopefully with a new sensor and updated software the Idle AFR learn will not be at -35.2 all the time.
Here are links to the current Data logs:
Cam#2= https://www.dropbox.com/s/ckbavqri1xlxjyd/DashBoardCam%3D2%20%282%29.csv?dl=0
Cam#3= https://www.dropbox.com/s/m4rjxoq9yp43yzh/DashBoard1.csv?dl=0
Cam#3 contains 3 logs for Idle and 1 that I went WOT. They are separated by a blank row. I also changed the idle AFR to 14.4 from 14.65 as it was too lean. Plugs are nice and tan right now.
That is it for now. Hopefully some of this information will help others.
Cheers

Quote from 63ChevyII327 on August 12, 2019, 10:45 pmUpdate for everyone, installed temp sensor, it now matches mechanical gauge. Install new software provided by Austin (thanks again). I had to reconfigure the initial settings as they get wiped, I am currently running cam=3 to try it out. Turned the key and it started right up. Waited for the temp to come up readjusted the throttle opening to get the IAC counts around 10. AFR target at idle was set to 14.6, didn't like it, too lean, lean bog, vacuum was low (5.0 to 5.6) so I changed it to 14. Drastic Change I know but initial trials here, vacuum cam up (5.7 - 6) about where it was with the carb. I noticed the lean bog was now almost gone, car ran closer to its idle target RPM and AFR target. Idle learn AFR is still in the -35 range but idle learn AFR was hovering around 0 now instead of in the - range.
I also locked the timing and reset base timing to 15 degrees and idle quality improved, vacuum went up about .3 or so average. Had to readjust the throttle opening to get IAC counts back to 10. No load throttle response improved.
I drove the car around a bit this evening to have it learn. Working but room for improvement. Cruise MAP is around 54-59 at 10% throttle at 55 Mph, AFR was showing 13.9 - 14, richer than my 14.65 setting at 3000 rpm 45 KPA cruise. Going to drive it more to see if that improves.
Slow throttle increase, AFR goes to 12.5 or so and stays there for a while and then goes back to 14. I didn't change the accel pump settings, still at 0. Looking at my TPS increase and it was roughly 6% so I will need to figure out why it is putting so much fuel at this slight increase, possibly wrong cam setting. WOT hits goes to the same AFR number 12.5.
next issue is one I have seen here already, very rich on accel followed by extremely lean on throttle release to 0 TPS AFR going from 12.6 up to 16 and change. Takes about 10 seconds or so to smooth back to where it currently runs. Guessing at either the wrong cam setting, DFCO settings or the system needing to learn more.
going to drive it some more, might try 20 degrees initial timing and see what happens. I'll post my idle log file tomorrow, try and get a driving one as well.
suggestions welcome
cheers
