Quote from mgrant on May 27, 2019, 11:21 pmwell after hours and hours of tinkering on this dam thing i think i have found the problem. I measured the ohms on the magnetic distributor and am getting nothing. MSD site states it should be between 400-1300 ohms. I had an old magnet setup for this distributor and it is reading 596ohms. I tested the MSD box as they show on there site and i am getting spark from there when i pull a jumper wire out. I then pulled the coil out of the car and bench tested the primary and secondary and it is within there specs as well. So thats when i checked the distributor and got nothing. Everything i read about the distributor says they rarely ever fail but mine is from 2006 so maybe its just done. I can buy a new magnet setup for $35 but it looks like you have to measure the gap and then silicone glue it in, im thinking for another $200 just get a whole new distributor. What do you think? Think i have narrowed it down enough to be the distributor?
Thanks Matt

I use the small cap HEI from the late 80s early 90s GM vehicles. Remove the module and add an MSD 2 wire harness. These use external coil and have a wide contact on the rotor. I have never needed to phase one.
Look at the Parts and Accessories topic. I have the Parts listed their and links.
Hardest part is cutting a piece of plastic to fill the hole left from the module. And that is not difficult. Total cost, maybe $80.

Quote from mgrant on May 29, 2019, 9:22 pmOk so I just installed the new distributor and it fired right up. But it is not running normal and now I have a P0351 coil fault code in the fitech. what would cause that?
Thanks Matt

Quote from mgrant on May 30, 2019, 1:20 amCan I run the MSD coil part# 8253, or is it going to be too hot and give off too much RPM signal or noise or interference with the FiTech system.
Thanks Matt

It is not how hot the coil is, it is it's proximity to the electronics and signal wires. I would think you would be ok.

Quote from mgrant on June 1, 2019, 9:50 pmOk so I put in a new Distributor and the big boy HVC 2 coil. Car fires up and runs but still doesn't seem to run right. but when you drive it and open it up the motor runs great and rips hard. It seems like the motor loves the AFR around 12.7. I am going to try and do the data logging stuff so I can post that and you can take a look at that. Also when you let off the throttle it pops a lot out of the exhaust and the AFR goes to like 20-22 so it seems like the injectors turn off maybe, cuz I just tap the throttle and the AFR goes back to 13 and the popping stops. I think there is an adjustment I can make to fix that in the handheld right? I have left the cam setting at #2 and haven't really messed with much because I don't want to ruin anything.
